Okay, I'm going to be honest. I've been online shopping ALOT lately. Something about being home all day in sweatpants until further notice has me thinking I need twenty new outfits... While I definitely miss shopping in my favorite stores and boutiques, shopping from the couch in my PJs hasn't been too bad. Sometimes, online shopping can feel like you're taking a risk. I used to be too scared to shop online, but I have definitely grown much more comfortable with it over the last couple of years. Now, I almost always get it right, and am pleased with my orders. If you're iffy about a purchase, maybe these tips will help you feel confident with your order or help you find the best deals while shopping online!
1. Get familiar with brands. Sure, you may know what size jean you always wear in American Eagle, but that can be a bit trickier with boutiques. Pay attention to the brands they carry, and know your true size for that brand. Some boutiques even name the brand for that item which is incredibly helpful! For example, a particular boutique I love carries the brand "Umgee". Because I usually wear a small in "Umgee", I can be confident that a small will work for me again! The same goes with shoes. You might can even check some tags in your closet to remind you how a particular brand fits you if you've shopped that brand before.
2. Know your body type and measurements. If you don't usually like it on in store, don't take a chance online. Stick to what you know you love. For example, my favorite thing to wear is a dress. Dresses fitted around the waist are my favorite style, and I can always count on that style working for me. Take your measurements, and you'll save yourself from the guessing game! Also, read the reviews on everything! People will be honest, and sometimes you can even find someone with your body type! If you simply don't want to chance it, try out some "one size fits all" items like a kimono or accessories.
3. Always head to the sale section first. I've found so many in-season pieces for under $10 before! Whether it's a chain store or a local boutique, the chances of you finding a summer dress or adorable sandals on sale are pretty high. It can feel like digging through the sale rack, looking for your size, but it is worth it when you find items marked down 50% or more!
4. Rack up on holiday/seasonal tees and off season items! Not gonna lie, I never want to pay $30+ for a Thanksgiving tee, as cute as they are, but every time Thanksgiving rolls around, I'm wishing I had one to wear with some jeans and a cardigan. The off-season is your chance to snag game day, St. Patrick's, Valentine's, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and other seasonal tees that you normally wouldn't buy. Most of the time, these tees are marked 50% off or more!
5. Always take advantage of email subscriptions. You can usually get 10%-20% off of your first purchase with many businesses! It may not feel like much, but it definitely adds up. Often times, it can end up covering the cost of shipping! For example, if you're planning to spend $100, that's an easy $10-$20 off!
BONUS TIP- take advantage of 4 month interest-free After-Pay! Many boutiques offer this now as an option at check-out! It splits your order total into 4 monthly payments. I don't know what all involved because I haven't used it yet, but I'm sure it's nothing more than creating an account and entering your information!
While I can't wait for the day I can finally indulge in my favorite hobby again (shopping, duh), online shopping will do. Hopefully some of these tips can help guide you in your online shopping as well! I know you are as eager as I am to revisit your favorite stores, but until then, happy online shopping! Stay safe!
